Remembering old friends, and saying thanks…

    July 28th, 2010 by bonelock

As I get ready to retire the 24-hour game forum for another year (this was our forth!), I just wanted to make sure everyone in the community knew that this year’s game was the most successful 24-hour event yet. Our donation total was $1,100 to Adsum House!

As always, Adsum House was very appreciative of the donation. Ellen Helmke, Director of Development said, “The Gelatinous Dudes have done it again! They have been outstanding supporters of Adsum for Women & Children for many years. Their efforts help to reduce the effects of poverty and homelessness in Halifax. Thanks guys!”

I didn’t play in this year’s game but it looked as fun as ever. We like to try a different RPG every year. This year’s game was the brain child of orcdoubleax. Set in our very own fair Halifax, the players found themselves in a zombie-apocalypse locked in a desperate battle between the gods of classic heavy metal. Hopefully we can get some pictures of the game room and set up sometime.

It sounds like the horror-theme will be continued next year as the gamers play a crack commando squad of werewolves infiltrating WWII Germany.

So, a big thanks to the players who put in the grueling hours and for the community for your support. Let us also take the opportunity again to remember Ron Zinck who left us way too early. The 2010 game was held in Ron’s memory.

When “Hal” is Full the Undead Walk the Earth…

    April 13th, 2010 by bonelock

Check your ammo and stock up on supplies as zombies will soon walk the earth. On June 26 the Gelatinous Dudes (GD) embark on their annual twenty-four hour gaming marathon for charity. This year, the GD battle undead armies using Eden Studios Inc.’s All Flesh Must Be Eaten (AFMBE) rules.

The GD like to try a different game system every year. The brains behind this year’s game is Zombie Master (ZM) Scott Carter. Carter praises the AFMBE rules as simple yet elegant. “They are true role playing rules,” says Carter. “AFMBE is not weighed down with unneeded complications or details. This allows the story to be the center of the game.”

Up to six players will take part in the game which will be held from the morning June 26 until sun up on June 27, 2010 in Halifax, NS. Funds are raised for the GD’s charity of choice, Adsum House for Women and Children. Players raise funds from pledges, and the GD online community, which are donated to Adsum after the game.

    Check http://www.gelatinousdudes.com/phpBB2/ for more details.

In Memory of Ron Zinck (1969- 2010)

    March 24th, 2010 by bonelock

The Gelatinous Dudes were saddened and surprised to learn that longtime board member Ron Zinck aka Nephelim passed away on March 22. Many of us have experienced Ron’s passion for original D&D. He also was a husband, worked in the health profession, loved the outdoors and was active in the community through causes like Phoenix House. Board member Ash a friend and player in Ron’s Mystara campaign posted this about Ron:

To know Ron’s passion for D&D required only to step into his D&D room in the basement of his house. It was there that all of his books, models, terrain, miniatures (thousands), and modules were kept. He loved talking about the game, and was proud to still own the very first books, and every edition ever produced subsequently. The room was ringed with paraphernalia that Ron had collected, including a knight’s helm, weapons, skulls, potions he had made, scrolls, crystal balls. Ron was also devoted to Halloween, and happy to say that neighbours would come from all around to see his impressive outdoor installation. Many Halloween items hence were stored in the gaming room, lending more ambiance to the surroundings. He prepared meticulously for each of his gaming sessions, and took great pleasure from crafting unusual and challenging encounters.

    He will be missed.

    Indeed, he will…

Invite to Play Test Brand New Steve Jackson Game!

    December 30th, 2009 by bonelock

On Sunday, January 17 come to Quantum Frontier and play test a brand new Steve Jackson game. Halifax is the ONLY city in Canada to have a copy, and is one of very, very few cities in all of North America to have a copy!

cdnmoon our local Steve Jackson MIB rep sums up Nanuk as follows:

“Nanuk is a game of hunting! In this game, we are Inuit up North, boasting about how many fish/deer/seal/etc we can capture in X number of days… We take turns uping the ante until somebody calls “DOOM” on our trip. You can choose to join the naysayers or the hunter’s teams. Then the hunters have to prove ourselves and either succeed or fail in their attempt to achieve the boast.”

Drop by from 12-5. Mark your calendar now!
